Objective’s on Resurrection Creek Restoration Project

 

Timeline of Project Activities:

Implement restoration plan involving YRC youth to begin June 4th of 2007 

Objective 1:  By Oct 20, 2006 begin collecting 30,000 dormant cut willows for the 2007 project. 

Objective 2:  By Jan 1, 2007 release the 06 YRC video (not paid through any part of this grant)  

Objective 3:  By Feb 1, 2007 make available at all high schools & YRC website the applications for youth

Objective 4:  By May 1, 2007 interview & hire 12 YRC youth for the 2007 program.

Objective:5   On June 4, 2007 work begins on Resurrection Creek involving 15 youth & 5 adult leaders.

Objective :6  June 29, 2007 Restoration work ends.

Objective :7  July 5, 2007 begin regular watering program as needed.

Objective: 8  August 17, 2007 end watering program on or before this date.

Objective: 9  August 20, 2007 Begin monitoring of project site involving local schools

Objective:10 Oct 15, 2007 Complete monitoring of the project which involves area schools

Objective:    

·         Through the established project baseline along with the support of experts from the forest and YRC, youth will plant native vegetation in patterns similar to those in like environments.   

·         Incorporating when able, methods displayed in the Stream bank Revegetation and protection pamphlet “Guide for Alaska” established by ADF&G in 2005 will be used. 

·         Through active hands on involvement of local youth we intend begin the re-vegetation process using methods to develop a mosaic of wet and dry environments that are common in these areas.

·         Restore riparian habitat and near stream vegetation where it has been determined that the stream’s proper functioning condition is in the range of variability.

·         Restore tree composition to 20% spruce, 40% cottonwood, 20 % willow with a calamgrostis under-story.

·         Plant conifers, hardwoods, willows and sod in recovered floodplain and along stream channels.
